Was born in the Phillips House Hotel on the corner of Third and Main St. in Dayton, Ohio. Was interested in business and finance from a young age.Loved pets of all kinds and had at one time a collection of little white mice. Enjoyed riding horses. Loved to draw, paint and create things of beauty. Very devoted to his father and enjoyed traveling with his father on the train to visit his father's various restaurants and hotels in Marion, Ohio and Buffalo, New York and other places. His father owned Depot Restaurants next to various train stations as well as managed hotels. For one of his birthdays was given a leather brief case and suit and tie just like his father had. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and loved to sing Irish songs taught to him by his father. Went to Saint Mary's academy for high school and then to Cornell University in New York. He did not graduate, but enjoyed his years there. At one point he kept writing home for more money from his father who would send it to him. When the holidays came around he drove home in a car that was so big it would not fit in the family garage. His father was not happy at all, but soon forgave his son it was a loving home. During the early depression years he married and had two children the love of his life as well as his wife. He was a devoted family man. Against the advice of several bankers he went into the pest control business. He worked hard at it and it grew into a very successful business that he ran all the rest of his working life. His wife died at a young age after the family had moved to Columbus, Ohio. He took a cruise on the advice of his sister MaryLouise Garrity and met his second wife Cathy whom he adored as much as his first wife. John's business did very well because of his long hours and hard work. He loved to give parties and was very social and loved to travel all over the world to Africa, Europe and South America. Had a great sense of humor and loved to make people happy. He was a fun loving happy go lucky person. His presents were always hand picked by him and always the best gifts you ever got for Christmas or a birthday. Died in Columbus of cancer of the jaw. Was buried in Dayton Ohio next to his parents and dearly missed by all who knew him.
