Dr. William S. Moskovitz, 79, of Austin, Texas, died July 27, 2010 in his home after a lengthy illness. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Beverly Moskovitz. He is survived by his son, Steven Jeffrey Moskovitz, daughter in law, Trina L. Moskovitz and his grandchild, Leah Rachel Moskovitz. Born and raised in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, he helped with his father's tailoring business. He graduated high school and went on to attend Pittsburgh University Medical School. He later entered the military and rose to the rank of Major. He and his future wife Beverly, met in San Antonio, Texas during the late 1950's. After dating a short time, they were married in 1958 and moved to his post in Hawaii where they lived for 2 years. They made Austin their home in 1964. They spent 41 loving years together until Beverly's death in 1999. Dr. Moskovitz was a prominent and well respected general and trauma surgeon for 50 years. He served as longtime Chief of Staff at Brackenridge Hospital. Amongst treating patients from all walks of life, his greatest passion was teaching surgical residents. Many of his patients were like his family and he cared for them as such. He was quick with a good joke, a funny story and a big laugh. He and Beverly were passionately devoted to working with Jerry Lewis and the Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day Telethon throughout their life together earning numerous honors and awards of recognition. After Beverly's death, he tirelessly worked with MDA until his health declined. Dr. Moskovitz was also a loving father, generous with his time and energy coaching his son's Little League games and with Boy Scouts. His greatest joy, and one he was most proud of, was being a grandfather to his only grandchild, Leah. His love and devotion to her helped to shape her into the loving and caring person she is today. Dr. Moskovitz will be missed greatly by family, friends and colleagues alike. May our memories of him be a blessing to us all. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or a charity of your choice. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2010, 4:00 p.m., at Agudas Achim of Austin Memorial Park.
