Born near Flint, Michigan, Rodney was one of 13 siblings (including birth, step, and half). He joined the U.S. Coast Guard as a young man and later worked in the Federal civil service. Rod was a friend I met on the tennis courts at California State University, Northridge in the 1980's. He was funny and full of life. He struggled with his weight for much of his life, but when I met him had achieved the goal of getting lean, but not mean; there wasn't a mean particle in his body. He was a very good tennis player and a compassionate soul. He moved to San Francisco and worked for many years in a civil service job. Sadly, I lost my friend when he was only 37 years old. (Mother's maiden name Toby)
