During World War II he joined the anti-fascist and after its fall he devoted to music criticism and especially over the works of Gioachino Rossini, Giacomo Puccini, Gian Carlo Menotti, Petrassi, Alfredo Casella, Pietro Mascagni, Hector Berlioz, Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky, Richard Strauss, Arnold Schoenberg, Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov and Leoš Janáèek among others. He also collaborated with several magazines, was a consultant to Italian television (RAI) And Also responsible for the Opera Theater of Rome. For 22 years, he was music critic for the magazine "L'Espresso", and also taught at several universities in Rome. En 1938 he was married to screenwriter Suso Cecchi.
