LAKELAND - Mr. Willie Charles Brooks of Lakeland died Thursday (Feb. 3, 2000) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 65.
He was born in Mulberry on March 24, 1934. He was a retired employee of the Polk County School Board. He was an operator for IMC Agrico. He was a member of the Mulberry Benevolent Club. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 77, Bartow.
He was treasurer of the Federation of Churches, church school teacher, assistant church school superintendent and past president of the St. James Senior Choir. He was layman president of the South Florida Progressive Primitive Baptist Union No. 1. He was a member of St. James Primitive Baptist Church, Mulberry, where he was chairman of the deacon board.
He is survived by his wife, Eura L. Brooks, Bradley, Edwin Charles Brooks, Mulberry; daughters, Aloumia Brooks Brown, Omega, Ga., Marveen Brooks Brown, Bartow, Robin R. Brooks Burton, Lakeland, Alearria D. Brooks Denmark, Garlyn T. Brooks Jackson, all of Lakeland; brothers, James Brooks, Robert Brooks, both of Hartford, Conn., Russell Brooks, St. Petersberg; sisters, Carolyn Burton, Hartford, Conn., Lessie Coklay, Sharon Hills, Pa., Katie L. Franklin, Mulberry, Leola Gibson, Lakeland, Willie Mae Maxwell, Bartow, Mary Francis White, Manchester, Conn., 12 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Gause Funeral Home, 625 S. Holland Pkwy., Bartow. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. James Primitive Baptist Church.
