Ras Bilbrey, 92, died Wednesday in a Cookeville hospital following an extended illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Monterey Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Dewey Phillips and the Rev. Jack Taylor officiating. Burial was in Welch Memorial Cemetery with Goff Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Bilbrey was a retired Baptist minister, but never missed the opportunity to ptoclaim the gospel to visitors who gathered in his home in recent years where he lived with his daughter. He was also a retired farmer from Overton County and was married to the former Naomi Phillips.
Mr. Bilbrey is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Laura Phillips of Rt 3 Monterey, Mrs Lou Looper of Route 1 Crawford, Mrs Lora Harris of Cookeville, Mrs. Opal Vaughn and Mrs. Classic Wilson of Battle Creek, Mich.; two sons, M. C. Bilbrey of Route 1 Crawford, and Alonzo Bilbrey of N Amityville, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.
