Robert Stephen McCeney was born in Montgomery County, Maryland on July 22, 1901. His parents were William H. and Annie Augusta McCeney. Robert studied agriculture at the University of Maryland. On June 27, 1927 he married Ruth Elizabeth Arrington in Petersburg, Virginia. They had 2 children Robert Stephen McCeney (1929-2011) and Elizabeth A. "Betsy" McCeney Potter. The McCeney's moved to Charles County in 1959 from Prince George's County, Maryland and settled on part of "Littleton" where Robert McCeny started a nursery.
Robert died Nov. 29, 1977. He was buried in Durham Churchyard on Dec. 2, 1977 with Rev. Arnold Taylor officiating.
