Married - On Tuesday, May 2d, at the M. E. parsonage in Fairfield, by Rev. Wm. Tilroe, Mr. George M. Witters and Miss Sarah J. McKirahan, both of Jeffersonville.
[Coldwater, Kansas Newspaper. Date was Friday, April 2, 1943]
Sarah Jane McKirahan, daughter of Samuel and Susanna McKirahan was born June 17, 1854, near Jeffersonville, Illinois, and died at her home in Coldwater, Kansas. March 27, 1943, at the age of 88 years, nine months and ten days.
She was united in marriage May 3, 1870, with George M. Witters. To this union were born six children, all of whom preceded her in death, except one daughter, Grace Bobbette of Cazenovia, N. Y., who was with her during her last illness. She united with the Methodist church at an early age and remained a faithful member of that church until several years ago when she united with the Mennonite church at Jet, Oklahoma. Since living in Coldwater she attended the Methodist church until the affliction of deafness and blindness kept her from attending.
She leaves one daughter, 22 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, besides a number of friends and neighbors.
Grandma Witters, as she was known to the neighborhood, lived a long and useful life, never waiting for others to do the things she could do herself. Although afflicted as she was with her sight almost gone, her one pride was her little home which she endeavored to keep neat and clean. Anyone who knew her could well learn a lesson from her life. We cannot grieve at her passing but are only glad that she is at rest.
