Funeral services were held July 12 in the Winner, S.D. Methodist Church for Joseph Achenbach, a Tripp County homesteader, who died June 8 at the Rosebud Community Hospital of a heart attack. He suffered a stroke about a year and a half ago and had been in ill health since.

The Rev. Fred Shoemaker of Colome officiated at the rites. Burial was in the Winner cemetery.

Joseph Henry Achenback was born March 4, 1878 at LaPorte City, IA, the son of Henry and Mary Achenbach. He died July 8 at the age of 79. When he was a small boy his parents moved to a farm near Creighton, Nebraska.

June 19, 1902 he was married to Stella Jane Rish at Winnetoon, Nebraska. Seven children were born to this union. A son, Leonard, died in infancy.

The family lived at Winnetoon, until moving to Tripp County to homestead in 1910.

Mrs. Achenbach died in 1943 and Mr. Achenback retired from the farm. He moved to Yankton, S.D., where he lived until 1946, when he returned to Winner to make his home.

He is survived by two sons, Floyd of Winner and Harold of Daytona Beach, Fla., four daughters, Mrs. Beulah Timmons and Mrs. Earl Simonson of Winner, Mrs. Walter Williamson of Pierre, S.D., Mrs. Jack Osterman of Tujunga, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Clara Groeling of Creighton; one brother, Albert of Liston, Ia.; 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
