Funeral of W.H. Edwards
The funeral services of the late William H. Edwards were held on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock from his home on Carey avenue, conducted by Rev. Austin Griffin of Binghamton, N.Y., and Revs. F.A. King, I.B. Wilson and W. W. Loomis took part. The basis of Rev. Griffin's remarks was Psalms 23:4 which Mr. Edwards selected a few days prior to his death. Mr. Griffin state that the deceased became a Christian and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at the age of 22 and for more than fifty years he responded cheerfully to the calls of the church. Mr. Griffin paid high tribute to his character and worth and said seldom do we assemble to lay away a better man than him whom we bury to-day. W.W. Loomis, who was a life long acquaintance of Mr. Edwards, referred in a touching manner to a visit he made him during his illness. A quartet from Central M.E. Church (of which Mr. Edwards was a member) composed of Miss Emma Lamb, Mrs. E.M. Hungerford, Ben Bachman and E.M. Hungerford, sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "I would not live always."
The deceased was born at Wantage, N.Y., Sept. 14, 1813. He was the son of John F. Edwards of Litchfield, Conn. who was a life-long teacher.
