Virginia and baby girl, wife and daughter of our brother James Lewis "Buddy" Brady was laid to rest with their infant daughter in her arms. They both died during childbirth due to an undiagnosed ruptured appendix.

We had planned a baby shower for her the afternoon that we received the call from Mama when she had gone to the hospital after Buddy had called her. She told us that Virginia had just died in childbirth with a baby girl. She was two weeks from her due date to have the baby. After Buddy had taken her for several visits to her doctor during the last two weeks with abdominal pain and fever, they were continually reassured by her doctor that there was nothing wrong. Everything is fine, the doctor told them.

Buddy had taken her back to the doctor that day because she was still not feeling well. An emergency cesarean was performed to deliver the baby and it was discovered that her appendix had ruptured, peritonitis had set in, and the infection was so massive that it had spread throughout her body and to the baby.

Virginia was such a sweet and gentle soft spoken person and we all loved her. She and Buddy had only been married less than two years. He carried her picture in his wallet for the rest of his life. It is the only picture we have of her now. He never recovered from losing them. He never remarried.

The inscription on her memorial marker is the last verse from a poem written by her mother-in-law Thelma "Burke" Brady entitled "Memory Garden".
