Amanda Carlson, daughter of Carl Magnus Carlson and Christine Lindstrom Carlson, was born at Varna, December 20, 1880, and passed away at St. Margaret's Hospital, Spring Valley, IL, Tuesday, December 9, 1947, at the age of 66 years, 11 months, and 19 days.
Born at the Carlson homestead near Varna, she grew to womanhood and spent her entire lifetime in the Varna community. She and her sister, Anna, who survives her,
have been inseparable companions all their lives, having lived alone together in their home in Varna since the death of their parents several years ago.
She was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church at Varna and remained a faithful member although of late years she was only able to attend services part of the time. She was also an active member of the Busy Bee Circle and other societies of the church. There were many floral tributes from friends and also monetary gifts to the Bethphage Mission in her memory.
She was fatally stricken on November 26, and was taken to the hospital. November 27 her sister tenderly cared for her in her affliction.
Funeral services were conducted by her pastor Rev.Paul Nelson, Friday afternoon, December 12. Following a brief prayer service at the home at 1:30 p.m. memorial services were held at the First Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock.
During the services Irene Carlson and Eldon Anderson, accompanied by Florence Gustafson sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Under His Wings"
Interment was in the Salem Cemetery (First Lutheran Cemetery #1).
Pallbearers were Grant Crone, Elmer Walin, Charles Lundgren, Rudy Lindstrom, Albert Carlson and Louis Johnson.
The Lindbloom Funeral Home of Henry, was in charge, John Boose directing.
