Edward Frank Johnson passed away of congestive heart failure on July 22, 2006. He lived to the age of 63 wonderful years. He was a model husband and father, leaving behind wife, June Vanessa Johnson; children, Tina Marie and Richard Johnson; stepchildren, Kathryn Dawn Mitchell and Irene Mitchell; brother, Brian Johnson; sisters, Terri and Sue Johnson; and niece, Sara Johnson. Ed was born in Jacksonville, Florida and was relocated with his mother, Sara Johnson to Bakersfield when he was three years old. Ed attended Bakersfield High School and Bakersfield College then he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He spent his first two years in Biloxi, Mississippi where he tested and qualified for the new field of computer technology, ranking at the top of his class. Ed was then sent to March Air Force Base where he worked with computers from 1967 through 1968. He left the Air Force with a Honorable Discharge. He lived the following sixteen years in the San Bernardino area working as an industrial maintenance mechanic, later expanding his vocation to become an electrical technician. In the later sixties and early seventies, Ed drove and exhibited his 1932 Ford Roadster. He loved working and rebuilding antique collectable automobiles as a hobby. Ed also became proficient at playing the Boogie Woogie style music on the piano as well as developing his dancing skills of which he won a number of prizes for. Ed would never get the bug of working with computers out of his system however. He spent his remaining years learning, building and working on computers as a hobby. He loved the great outdoors, expressing himself through photography, hiking, camping, rock collecting and owning home in the forest of the Greenhorn Mountains. His love for working with electricity inspired him to experiment and eventually built a Teslia Coil that produced a four-foot electrical arch. Technology fascinated him. "Ed was always there to help family members, friends and strangers that might fall upon hard times. He was a friend to everyone. He was an outstanding and stimulating husband and father, encouraging his stepchildren into the world of reading and science. He is and will always be my soul mate and inspiration for science and solar electrical technology. I deeply thank Ed's brother, Brian Johnson for his strength and for making Ed's departure a memorable celebration for his life. I will always love my husband for his company, warmth, adventure and enlightening lifestyle." Vanessa Edward Frank Johnson April 20, 1943 - July 22, 2006 Basham Funeral Care
