-- ROCK HILL - Mr. Melvin J. Beam Jr., 84, of 261 S. Herlong Ave., passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at Uni Healthcare.
-- Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Oakdale Baptist Church, with Pastor Jerry Devinney officiating. Burial will be private. Full military honors will be provided by The American Legion Honor Guard of Frank Roach Post 34 following the memorial service.
-- Mr. Beam was a native of York County, S.C., and the son of the late Inez Eury and Melvin J. Beam Sr. and the widower of Daphine Bradley Beam. Melvin was a former member of Lakewoood Baptist Church and a retiree of Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Company, where he worked for over 42 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a Bronze Star recipient.
-- Surviving are his son, Roger Wayne Beam and wife, Terri; his daughter, Rhonda P. McManus and husband, Jody; his brother, Bobby Beam; four grandchildren, Tina B. Robinson, David W. Beam, Bont'e Reeder and Tracy Rush; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Melvin was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Melvin Beam and his brother, Edward Beam.
-- The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.
-- In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Oakdale Baptist Church, 1249 Oakdale Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
