Wisconsin National Guardsman called to federal service as the commanding officer of A Company, 192nd Tank Battalion. Killed in Action on December 24, 1941, on Luzon, Philippine Islands. He put himself in a potentially deadly situation so none of his men would be killed. He was mortally wounded while planting a homemade landmine when it detonated in his hands.
