George Cosby ODOM, Jr. son of George Cosby ODOM, Sr. and Connie Bell WALKER; born at home on 31 Aug 1922 [birth certificate in error shows: 30 August 1922], RRT#2 Sebree-Dixon Rd, Webster Co., KY; died age 83 on 04 April 2006, at Lubbock Heart Hospital, Lubbock, Lubbock Co., TX; buried cremated remains 12 April 2006, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, Fort Bliss, El Paso Co., TX.

In his early years George was called "G. C." but never really liked it, so gave it up when joining the Navy. (His Diary)

George was a resident at time of death at 802 South Plains Park Drive, Roswell, Chaves Co., NM. His wife had passed from there 2 years earlier. He went to the veteran's hospital in Lubbock, Texas, for surgery and never returned home; from there he went to his new home to be with his Creator in Heaven.

George married 18 March 1944, Portsmouth, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire to Harriet Aileen ZIMMER, daughter of Merrill Kempster ZIMMER, Sr. and Florence Joan AYRES. They had 4 children living in Oct 2011: 1 daughter (b KY), 1 adopted son and twin daughters (b in Brazil, SA).

George and Harriet met in the Navy up in New Hampshire; they married there before he was sent to the Pacific to serve as a submariner for eighteen months aboard the USS Plaice and Harriet as a WAVE ("Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service"). Following their Naval honorable discharges from WWII in November 1945, they enrolled in the Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois and Baylor University School of Religion in Waco, Texas and earned their Master of Arts degrees in 1952. They served as Missionaries with Conservative Baptist Foreign Missions Society (in 1994 was CBInternational and in 2005 became WorldVenture) for thirty-three years in Brazil, South America and then retired in Roswell, Chaves Co., New Mexico.

George and Harriet both received an honorary doctorate. Dr. Odom remained active in the ministry through Calvary Baptist Church in Roswell, NM. He was an avid stamp collector, sweepstakes participator, reader, writer of theological compilings, teacher of Biblical studies and he wrote his autobiography. He cooked, cleaned, collected pills (he was diabetic), gardened, weeded and for many years he bicycled and loved to walk. He was a "handyman" and could often be heard whistling as he went about his duties. He and his wife traveled untold miles on their missionary deputations (raising financial support) through many states and destinations both for work and pleasure, including genealogy research. For many years they participated as members of the National Odom Assembly.

This was our Dad; we miss him. G. J. Odom Trommler of PA in Oct 2011; twin to G. J. Odom Pereira Kammer of WA; now of GA.
