During WWII he served his county in the U.S. Airforce. After he completed his tour of duty, he returned to the states where he married Minnie Catherine Blankenship of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
The couple returned to Huntington, where Matt owned and operated a dry cleaning business.
Matt was survived by his wife Catherine, and sisters, Patricia Zahn Schenkel of Indiana, and Dorthy Zahn Gass of S. Lucia, Florida.
