Dorothy and her family moved to California, Missouri, in December, 1938. She was a native of Hale, Missouri, where her husband had apprenticed in that town's electrical generating plant. He worked at Harrisonville, Missouri, prior to them moving to California, where he took the position of Superintendent of the municipal utilities. Their children, Donna, Charles, Robert and Lonnie, all attended high school at California.
