She first married Leroy S Milnor who grew up not to far from her, across the county line in Fairfield County. They had seven children: Elizabeth Jennie, who died when she was three; George Simpson, Wesley Leroy, Gilbert Lincoln, Edward Franklin, Clarence Henry, and Mary Catherine "Kitty".
Leroy died 14 Dec 1869 and was buried in Pickerington, Ohio with many of his Milnor relatives as well as Jennie. By August 1870, Ellen was married to Calvin Ackley, a prominent citizen of Fulton County, Ohio. Although Calvin had at one time lived in Licking County, he had made his home in Fulton County since before 1850.
After marrying Calvin, he would not accept her older boys (ages 6-15) and so she had to farm they out to neighbors. Kitty was young enough (3 yrs old) that she stayed with her mom and new stepdad.
Ellen died 22 Apr 1912 due to gallstone obstructing the common bile duct. She was buried in Pleasant View Cemetery on 24 Apr 1912.
Note: Ellen's name also appears on the Ackley family stone (Calvin, Gertrude, Jane, and others) minus a death date, but she is buried next to her daughter, Mary C Roe.
