Named after First Lady Martha Washington. After her father's death in 1911, Martha took over as president of his Cincinnati, Ohio bell foundry, The Buckeye Bell Foundry/E.W. Vanduzen Company. Her brother-in-law Dr. Francis Marion Baldwin served as the company vice president until his death in 1926.

Having never married, Martha lived with her parents, then with her widowed sister Anna Eliza Van Duzen Baldwin after their passing. Her cause of death was listed as "cardiac decompensation and senility".
