Edna was born to Philip C. TenBroeck and Ida D. Crocheron TenBroeck. After her fathers death in 1898, her mother married widower Lewis Coon. Edna and sister Marie TenBroeck each married one of Lewis's sons from his first marriage, Matthew Coon and Earl Coon. Matthew and Marie were married about 1903. Edna and Earl were married in 1911. Edna and Earl had 2 daughters: Maybelle T. Coon Taylor and Beatrice Coon Jepson.

Every Christmas the family received hand-painted Christmas cards from Edna, many with lengthy letters.
