French Army Officer, Statesman, Journalist.He was a famous professional French Offcier - became later a writer and a politician - when the first world war started het took service again in the army as a Lt-Col alltough he was 59 years. Het commanded the sector of "le Bois de Caures" in 1915 and alarmed even the french president because of the weakness of the defence around the city of Verdun. The 21 st february 1916 the fifth German army launched a massive attack at le "le Bois de Caures", while retrieving he was hit by a bullet. He died the 22 nd february and was burried near the place where he died. Later a mausoleum was build and his corps was moved to this place with other soldiers of the "59'ieme Chasseurs" he commanded.
