Death Follows Operation for Goiter. Was 44 Years of Age and Spent Half Her Life in Hawarden

Mrs. Oscar Anderson, for more than twenty-two years a resident of Hawarden, died about 6 o'clock Monday morning at the Hawarden hospital following an operation for toxic goiter which had been performed Sunday. She had been in ill health for two years and finally determined to submit to an operation in an effort to regain her health and entered the hospital about a week prior to her death. She did not possess sufficient vitality to withstand the shock of the operation and her death resulted.

Brief funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon, followed by services at the Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. J. W. LaGrone, in charge. Music for the service was furnished by the church choir. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

Anna Minnie Nelson was born on a farm in Union county, S. D., Feb. 18, 1884, and died in Hawarden July 23, 1928, having attained the age of 44 years, 5 months and 5 days. Her childhood years were spent in her native community and in young womanhood on Jan. 21, 1903, she was united in marriage with Oscar Anderson at Elk Point, S. D.

Ten children were born to this union, Mrs. Ellen Green of Akron, Iowa, Mrs. Irene Arrant and Lillian of Omaha, Neb., and Elizabeth, Harold, Blanche, Lawrence, Fern, Leon and Leonard, at home. Besides her husband and children, Mrs. Anderson leaves to mourn her passing, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Nelson of Hawarden; one brother, Erick Nelson of Hawarden; and three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Carlson and Mrs. Elsie Carlson of Hawarden, and Mrs. Maria Block of Alcester.

While but a child Mrs. Anderson was Baptized and confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran church but as there was and is no church of her denomination in Hawarden she gave her allegiance to the Methodist church and sent her children to the Methodist Sunday school. All but the two oldest of her children were born in Hawarden and she has lived here more than twenty-two years. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother, and a sincere home builder who thought not so much about her home comforts and wishes as about her family and their comforts and pleasures. Hence she was happy when sacrificing most for them. Mrs. Anderson was a 'good neighbor and was highly respected by those who were closely associated with her in the community. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends goes out to the son-owing husband and family of children in their bereavement.
