Son of Peter Adams (Panagiotis Ath Adamopoulo) and Marie Adams (Photos) both born in Greece. Peter died in Greece in 1973 but no burial record found. No burial record for Marie that matched census records.
He was flying a P-47D which took off from Woodchurch on a dive bombing mission in the Chartres area of France. Weather was clear and visibility unlimited. Lt Clyde Marshall his wingman stated that they were dive bombing a train near Chartres and pulled out at about 1000ft but he continued going down. Crashed at 0900hrs at Remise des Montgalets, Orsonville, 14 miles east of Chartres.

Statement from 2nd Lt Clyde L. Marshall:
"I was flying on Lt Adams wing on 18 July 1944, at about 0900 hours, when we went into a dive bomb a train. I was on the right of Lt Adams and I dropped my bombs and pulled out at about 1,000 feet. When I pulled out of my dive Lt Adams was still going down. I saw something hit the train two cars back from the engine but do not know whether it was Lt Adams airplane our his bombs. I did not see Lt Adams pull out of his dive and I could not find him after I had pulled out. I saw large balls of flame roll down the track in front of the train and burn for several minutes. I came back and flew low over the train but could not tell whether it was parts of the plane or not."Capt Arthur P. Adams was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Solers, France.
