Mary Ellen Murphy Hall was born January 15, 1925 to Argo Murphy Henry and Jahalon Murphy in Kemp, Texas and passed on to be with the Lord on August 27, 2008. She was married to Navy Lieutenant (senior grade) Ralph M. Hall in Pensacola, Florida on November 14th, 1944 the same day that Lt. Hall received his pilot wings. Their first home was in Daytona Beach, Florida where they vacationed annually. The couple returned to Rockwall after World War II and raised their sons: Ralph Hampton Hall, Brett Allen Hall, and J. Blakeley Hall. Mrs. Hall was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught the Friendship Class for many years. She also was a group leader for Bible Study Fellowship, an international group of Biblical scholars. She was an honor graduate from Kaufman High School and from Texas A&M Commerce. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in speech and drama. She was a talented book reviewer and an honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Mary Ellen was also Drum Major for four years at Kaufman High School. Other memberships included Texas Ladies Senate Club in Austin, Texas, and the Congressional Wives Club in Washington, DC. She was a Board of Trustees Member for the Rockwall Independent School District from 1973 to 1978, serving twice as Vice President (1974 and 1976). She was a world traveler, but home was her favorite place. She treasured the many hours she spent loving and caring for her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Congressman Ralph M. Hall, 4th District of Texas, her sons Hamp and wife Jody, Brett and wife Karen, and Blake and wife Catherine, sister-in-law Rosemary Hall Scott, brother-in-law, Hugh O. Hall and wife Doris Jane, grandchildren Jay Hampton Hall, Sarah Elizabeth Hall, Amanda Ellen Hall, Crystal Tucker, and Steven Lee Lule, nephew Dr. Victor Mark Scott and wife Vicki along with their children Haley Nicole Scott and Alexander Cole Scott, one aunt, Verna Randall, and cousin Wilburn Pritchard. She was preceded in death by nephew Hugh Olin Hall III, and niece Rebecca Hall Jeanes.

Honorary Pall Bearers include members of the Friendship Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church in Rockwall. Funeral services are at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Rockwall with Dr. Joe Pool and Dr. Bruce Hargrave conducting the services. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday August 28, 2008 at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Next Step Cameron Building Fund, c/o First United Methodist Church, 1200 E. Yellowjacket, Rockwall, TX 75087.
