Casualty of the Great War, George served as a Private in the 22nd (Tyneside Scottish) Bn.of the Northumberland Fusiliers. His service no. was 22/1306. He was 28 and the son of William and Emma (nee Pleasents) ; husband of Nora Nugent of 34 Frankling Street, Shieldfield, Newcastle-on-Tyne.
The photographs shown as at November 2010 show the Lochnagar Crater where George's remains were found-a Cross marks the spot.He was officially reported missing on 1st July 1916, but it wasn't until 31st October 1998 that his body was found. He was finally laid to rest at Ovillers on 1st July 2000, 84 years after his death.
