It is accepted that James and Sophronia were legally married as Sophronia was admitted to membership of the methodist church, and she was later married to John Benjamin Peyton, a member of the same church.
On the Hightower side Minerva is the granddaughter of Henry Hightower and Lucy Green who are on the 1850 census in Mil Dist 483 in Bibb county. She is thought to be the great granddaughter of Jonathan Hightower and his wife Sarah.
Her Brown ancestry is being investigated and will be updated as more information becomes available. Martha Mary Brown Campbell and Nancy M Brown Woods are very likely her Aunts and are buried in Jones Chapel, the burial site of her mother and step-father. The obituary of Martha Mary Brown Campbell erroneously refers to Sophronia and Martha as daughters instead of sisters.
Minerva more than likely never knew her father as she was born in 1860. Her mother and father appear on the 1860 census together with James' sister and second husband (Mary Hightower Tyson Jackson and William A Jackson m 1852). William Hightower, FAG 63049747, sold the land to William A Jackson even though this is not noted on census record. All indications are that he was also a son of Henry Hightower, and would have been Minerva's Uncle.
Her father enlisted in the Civil War in 1861. He was hospitalized and subsequently discharged in Richmond, VA in Dec 1861 due to disability.
The actual grave location for James, her father, has not been located.
