Pvt. Anderson was the son of Silas Franklin Anderson and Laura Agnes Mann. He had one brother, Adelbert (Delbert) Greer Anderson.

He was wounded by shrapnel and died in a French hospital of the wounds he had received.

On November 14, 1920, the people of his hometown unveiled
a monument in his honor. The monument is in a local cemetery. Over 500 people attended and businesses were closed for the day.
