Entered service at Galesburg, May 26, 1918; to Camp Gordon, GA with 50th Company, 5th Infantry Replacement Regiment; transferred to 50th Company, July Automatic Replacement Regiment; transferred to Company C, 28th Infantry, August 30, 1918; overseas; killed at Meuse-Argonne offensive, October 9, 1918; shot through heart by a machine gun bullet, in the attack on Hill 263, 35 men in his platoon in crossing an open space, were caught in an artillery and machine gun barrage and in less than thirty minutes 20 out of the 35 were killed or wounded; buried at Argonne American Cemetery at Romagne-Sous-Montfaucon.
