Survived by his brother Samuel D. Wright of Dennison, OH.Private United States Army, 143rd Ambulance Company. He was present during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, in what is present-day Romagne, France. He enlisted in Columbus, Ohio, in April, 1918 & shipped to France to be part of the American Expeditionary Forces 18 July 1918 until his death just days before Armistice was reached on 11 November 1918. Espy was killed on 29 October 1918 accidentally by a truck, when he fell from the back of an ambulance while trying to catch a fellow soldier's coat. The military notified Samuel D. Wright, Espy's brother, who resided in Dennison, Ohio. Espy is buried in the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, a 130.5-acre World War I cemetery in France. It is located east of the village of Romagne-sous-Montfaucon in Meuse. The cemetery contains the largest number of American military dead in Europe (14,246), most of whom lost their lives during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and were buried there.
