Captain Wynyard Keith Brown, 1st Battalion, 5th Gurkha Rifles (Frontier Force). He was the son of the late Colonel Francis David Millet Brown, VC, (101st Royal Munster Fusiliers) and Jessie Doris Brown, of Cricket Hill Cottage, Yateley, Hants. Baptised on 30 Nov 1887 in Lucknow, Bengal, India. Educated at Wellington College, Berkshire. He married on 5 Sep 1914 Mabel Louisa Seymour (1873-27 March 1951), daughter of General Lord William Frederick Ernest Seymour (1838-1915) and Honourable Eva Anna Caroline Douglas-Pennant (1853-1934). Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned into the Indian Army (unattached list) as a 2nd Lieutenant on 24 Jan 1906. He spent his probationary year with a British battalion in India. He was posted to the 5th Gurkha Rifles on 27 Mar 1907. Promoted to Lieutenant on 24 Apr 1908. During WW1 he initially served in Egypt and then deployed to the Dardenelles, Turkey where he was attached to the 9th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own). He was killed in action on 4 Jun 1915 leading a company to recover trenches lost by the 6th Gurkhas. He was mentioned in despatches twice (London Gazette: 4 Jun 1915 and 17 Mar 1917). He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.

His only son, Francis David Wynyard Brown (b. Oct-Dec 1915 in Kensington, London), was a member of HM Diplomatic Service, Gazetted on 24 Sep 1938 as a Third Secretary, and was Assistant Private Secretary to Winston Churchill in 1941.
