Edith C. Crome, age 89, of Batavia, passed away on Sunday July 8, 2001 at the HCR Manor Care in Hinsdale. She was born January 13, 1912 in Elburn, the daughter of John Albert and Emma Strom. She was united in marriage to Wilfred C. "Bud" Crome on September 23, 1943 in Lily Lake, Illinois.
Edith devoted her life to her beloved family and faith. She was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Batavia and former member of Grace Lutheran Church of Lily Lake. She was a former employee of Campana Corporation and the Chronicle Newspaper. She treasured her special times with her family and friends, in the home that she and her husband built over 50 years ago. Always active, she was a member of the Batavia Plain Dirt Gardeners and a member of a special group, called the Buzz Club, which consisted a group of her lady friends. Edith will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her two sons, Hugh (Karen) Crome, of Dublin, Ohio and Dale (Anna) Crome, of Burr Ridge, Illinois; five grandchildren, Jennifer Crome of Los Angeles, California, Heather Crome of Dallas, Texas, Bethany Crome and Victor Crome, of Chicago and Joseph Crome, of Burr Ridge; two sisters, Clara "Kay" Petersohn, of DeKalb and Mabel (Carl) Johnson of St. Charles.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Ryan Crome; and by two sisters, Anna Carlson and Florence Carlson.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 11, 2001 at the Yurs-Peterson Funeral Home in Batavia.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday July 12, 2001, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Batavia, where she will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service. The Rev. Ronald W. Weidler will officiate. Interment will be at Lily Lake Cemetery in Lily Lake, Illinois.
