William was the youngest of 6 children born to Charles and Sarah Auman. He was born in Newport News, VA. and grew up in Biscoe, NC. He attended NC State University and graduated with a 4 year degree in 1940 in Architectural Engineering. He enlisted into WW II Dec 10, 1941 in the Air Corps. He went missing in action June 16, 1942. He is memorialized there in Hawaii for his service.
