Alfred was a member of the Wyatt-Griego American Legion Post No. 40 in Mountainair, Mountainair Teacher of the Year in 1969, a member of the National Education Assn., the New Mexico Education Assn, the National Retired Teachers' Assn., a graduate of Highlands University in 1952, a 32nd degree Mason of the New Mexico Scottish Rite Bodies, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Albuquerque, a member of the United Methodist Church of Mountainair, a member and past master of the AF&AM Lodge No. 47, Order of the Eastern Star, a senior active member of Mountainair Rotary Club, and past Rainbow Dad of the Rainbow Girls No. 61 of Mountainair.
He was preceded in death by his son, Alfred Lemuel Sloan, Jr.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Edith Alma (Rockwell).
