PROVO — Gunnery Sgt. Nathan J. Roundy of the marines, husband of Mrs. Deon Turloupis Roundy, 133 So. 3rd West, has been awarded the bronze star for heoric achievement while serving with a marine infantry battalion on Saipan, June 15 to July 8, according to word received by his wife from the war department.

Sgt. Roundy entered the service in August, 1940, and has spent 33 months overseas serving in the Midway, Marshall islands, Saipan and Tinnian island campaigns. He was previously awarded the Presidential Unit Citation ribbon.

Nathan was later wounded at Iwo Jima during one of the bloodiest battles of World War II, he was medivaced to an off-shore hospital ship where is succumbed to his wounds. He was buried at sea with full military honors.

There are memorials for Nathan James Roundy in his home town of Oasis, UT as well as in Honolulu at the National Cemetery of the Pacific.

Nathan is the son of George Ervin Roundy (1893-1968) and Tecla Christensen Roundy (1899-1929).

Nathan married Deon Helen Turloupis (1922-??) on 18 Apr 1943 in Utah county, Utah. After Nathan's death she re-married Gorman C Winget (1918-2001) on 08 Jan 1949 in Utah county, Utah.
