Seaman Apprentice Darvin Russell Lee was the son of Charles E. Lee and Nettie Creason. His father preceded him in death, as his mother is listed as widowed in the 1940 census and there is no mention of Charles Lee in any military record or newspaper articles about Darvin/Darwin.

Darwin Russell Lee, 18-year-old son of Mrs. Nettie Lee, was killed in action, his mother has been advised by the Navy. She received this telegram Wednesday:

The Navy department regrets to inform you that your son, Darwin Russell Lee, seaman first class, USNR, was killed in action while in the service of this country. The department extends to you its sincerest sympathy in your great loss. His remains were buried at sea with full Military Honors. If further details are received you will be informed. To prevent possible aid to our enemies please do not divulge the name of his ship or station.

Seaman Lee was born in Pawnee on the 8th anniversary of the armistice ending the first World War, Nov. 11, 1926. He attended the Pawnee schools and lived here all his life. He enlisted in the navy at Pawnee, January, 1944, and had many months service in the Pacific.
Six brothers and sisters, Mrs. Florence Parker, Myrtle Lee, Rachael Everett, Darrell and Earl survive. Earl is with the army and has been stationed in the Fiji islands and in India nearly three years.

Darwin R. Lee is another Pawnee Boy serving in the navy. He is a son of Mrs. Nettie Lee and was born in Pawnee Nov. 11, 1926, eight years after the signing of the Armistice ending World War I. He has three sisters and three brothers, one of the brothers, Earl, is with a hospital unit of the army and has served overseas in the Pacific area to years.
Darwin attended the Pawnee grade and high schools and was doing farm work when he entered the service at Pawnee in January, 1944. He was sent to sea duty soon after he completed his boot training.
