Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Germany on March 7, 1830, he served as a Private in Company E, 158th New York Volunteer Infantry. In the Battle of Chapin's Farm, Virginia, September 29, 1864, Private Schiller led an advance into the ditches in which the Confederate forces were entrenched. For extreme bravery, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on April 6, 1865.
