The plane was last seen burning on the Italian beach believed to be Capo Stilo.
1st/Lt. Bateman name appears Tablets of the Missing at North Africa American Cemetery Carthage, Tunisia. He was declared KIA August 1944 however his actual date of death was in 1943 his body was never recovered, he has a cenotaph memorial Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery
