He was an early settler of Putnam County, Indiana, USA.
He was born in Franklin County, Virginia, on July 24, 1813, the third of twelve children born to Robert Nicholas BOND (1766-1828) and Sally Ann Starkey (1770-1832), the former of Irish descent and the latter of Scottish descent. Both were born in Virginia.
His father moved to Kentucky in 1816, and died there in 1828, and Austin, with his widowed mother and eight children, removed to Lawrence County, Indiana, in 1829, where his mother died in 1832. The parents had twelve children, and Austin was the chief dependence of the family until the younger children were reared. He was always engaged in farming.
He married Anna Wilson on November 17th, 1835 in Fountain County, Indiana.
