RAYMOND E. HAWKE served in World War II in the Army as a Private First Class. His unit was the 357th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division. He was killed in Belgium serving his country in 1945 and received the Purple Heart. He is buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Liege Province, Belgium, in Plot F, Row 12, Grave 65.

Raymond was the third of nine children born to Emma Louise Flickner and Herbert Winfield Hawke of Mercer County, Pennsylvania.
