LaVon was the son of Paul Edward Petersen and Gladys Viola Kline. He was killed in action in Germany. John Wilson Huss was in the process of adopting LaVon so the name Huss was used when LaVon entered into the army. His biological father refused the adoption so Huss was never a legal name for LaVon. He officially remains LaVon Eugene Petersen but all his army records and some school records are under the name Huss.
