Pvt Gordon U. Wood enlisted as a Private July 13, 1941, at Fort McPherson, Atlanta. At the time of his death he was serving with the 1st Engineer Combat Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in Belgium. Pvt. Wood reportedly died in a plane crash.
Private Wood had participated in the Sicilian and African Campaigns as well as the invasion of France and Germany.
