Robert served as a Staff Sergeant & Right Waist Gunner on B-17G #42-39952, 551st Bomber Squadron, 385th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Parker County, Texas prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on June 19, 1941, prior to the war, in Dallas, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a filling station attendant and also as Single, without dependents.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 collided with B-17G (#42-39938) and crashed into the North Sea off Texel, Holland during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
