Roy's remains were recovered in 1969. He was interred in the Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Oregon.

Roy served as a First Lieutenant and Co-Pilot on B-17F "Invictus" #42-3486, 812th Bomber Squadron, 482nd Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in King County, Washington prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 7, 1942 in Seattle, Washington. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a mechanic and also as Single, without dependents.

B-17F #42-3486 took off, with a crew of 11, from Station 102 Thurleigh, England on a bombing mission over Halberstadt, Germany. They were attacked by German fighter aircraft and shot down crashing near Lelystad Municipality, Netherlands. There were only 3 survivors.

Roy was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
