He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 7, 1942 in Seattle, Washington. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a mechanic and also as Single, without dependents.
B-17F #42-3486 took off, with a crew of 11, from Station 102 Thurleigh, England on a bombing mission over Halberstadt, Germany. They were attacked by German fighter aircraft and shot down crashing near Lelystad Municipality, Netherlands. There were only 3 survivors.
Roy was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.
He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
