Anthony served as a Staff Sergeant and Gunner on B-24H #42-50277, 720th Bomber Squadron, 450th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on December 3, 1942 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted as being employed in the building of aircraft and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24H #42-50277 took off, with a crew of 10, from Manduria, Italy on a bombing mission over Orbettello, Italy. After a successful bombing run it was noticed by others in the formation that B-24H #42-50277 had been hit by ground anti-aircraft fire and was having trouble with the #1 & #3 engines.

The pilot, 1st Lt. Radue, was trying to feather the engines but was unsuccessful. Six (6) parachutes were seen leaving the B-24 before it crashed into the sea off Corsica during the war. Only two crew members survived the crash.
