Son of Ellen Voyles and James Harrison Cook.Arvis Lowin Cook (UNCLE LOSS) was born in Union County Georgia. At the age of 7 he was hurt in a sled accident and was cripple. This disability did not keep him from persuing a trade. He attended Clarksville, Ga. Technical school and became a watch repairman. His shop was in Murphy, N. C. He did live in Murphy, N. C. but he rode the bus to Culberson, N. C. and often walked the distance of aprox 6 miles to his mother Ellen's home in the Dooly community. He closed his business after many years when someone broke into his shop. He continued to work from his home doing watch repair. He worked at our Marina with my mom and dad who ran the Raper Store until we retired from the Air Force, Uncle Loss helped them and remained with us until Jim retired. He will always hold a special place in our hearts.
