Following Isaac's death, Martha married Rev. Cornelius Ades. Cornelius Ades was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, the son of Phebe Whitacre Ades, a native of Loudon county, Virginia. Ties between the Whitacre and Richards family are well established. Several sources state that Rev. Isaac Whitacre (husband of Phebe Richards) and Rev. Cornelius Ades served the Buckeye Christian church early in it's history, dating to 1840.
Cornelius had lived on the western side of Illinois for some time, in the same neighborhood as Thomas and Mary (McNeely) Regester, who were the uncle and aunt of Isaac Richards. Cornelius married Mrs. Phebe Marsh in McDonough county, Illinois in 1860. They lived there for about 10 years, then 5 years in Iowa, and for a time in Kansas, before they returned to McDonough county mid-1888. Phebe died in October 1888. A son of her first marriage filed a lawsuit against Cornelius in January 1889, claiming that all money and certain property left by Phebe was rightfully his. It was after the filing of this suit that Cornelius married Martha in Wayne county on 21 March 1889 (some sources also give 4 April 1889 as the date). Cornelius died soon after, on 25 September 1889; according to some, his death took place in Colchester, McDonough county. The lawsuit was settled in favor of the estate of Cornelius Ades, and affirmed on appeal to the 3rd Appellate court of Illinois in May 1891.
No connection is known, but it is interesting to note that Isaac Richards' step-mother was Mary Ewing; perhaps related to Martha's mother, Elizabeth Ewing Truscott?
