*** Soldier's Medal, Bronze Star, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster ***

The Belgium troopship Leopoldville while transporting over 2,000 soldiers of the 66th Infantry Division across the English Channel was torpedoed & sunk on Christmas Eve 1944. There were 763 soldiers killed & the bodies of 493 were never found. It is one of the terrible ironies of the disaster that 2/Lt. McArthur survived the sinking only to be killed later on Feb. 20, 1945 during the fighting in France.
