1Lt. Engelking was the fourth of five children born to Otto Engelking and Caroline Marie Beck who lived in Beeville, Texas.
After enlisting in the US Army, lLt. Engelking completed is Primary Pilot Training at Bruce Field in Ballinger, Runnels county, Texas. He was a member of Class 43-A.
Engelking lost his life on a mission to Sangatte, France, when the plane he was piloting went down over water. There were no survivors of the crash. He was serving with the 572nd Bombardment Squadron, 391st Bombardment Group, Medium, and was the recipient of the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. His name in on the tablets of the missing.
1Lt. Engelking was survived by his parents; two brothers, Frederick Comal Engelking and James Culberson Engelking; and two sisters, Eleanor Camille Engelking Wilson and and Joyce Evelyn Engelking Hall.
