Clement was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 was hit by enemy flak and crashed in Gross Zerlang, Germany during the war.

He was awarded and Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster.
